So! I decided to enter the world of blogging. I'm still not sure if I am ready to enter this world or
in fact, if this world is ready for me and my not so profound thoughts on life, God and church.
However I find myself here!
Saturday night TV this week inspired me! 'What?' I hear you say. I found myself so impacted and inspired by something I saw that I felt I wanted to share it somewhere.
If I were to ask any of you what BGT no. 43212 is, I suspect most of you might know but for those who don't here it is. It is Susan Boyle's Britain's got talent (my new found hero's) stage number. I, like countless others watched on Saturday night, as this very ordinary, unattractive lady marched onto the stage in front of the 3 judges Simon, Piers and Amanda.
She, at first glance appears very frumpy and in dire need of a total make over and as she begins to speak, she some what clumsily tells the 3 judges a little about herself and what her dream is. Simon asks her "So whats the dream?" and Susan answers "I am trying to be a professional singer" Simon then asks "and why hasn't it worked out so far?" to which Susan answers " I have never been given a chance before."
Now at this point in the show several things happen. The 3 judges have already made up their minds about this lady and the large studio crowd, just a little excited about the "comedy act" that they have come so used to expect and that all to often cringe worthy attempt to sing a song and become as famous as someone like Elaine Page, begins. The dream, so many dream on these shows that ends in total collapsed failure, and a nightmare to recover from.
Now I most confess I too was one of these people sitting in judgement, I never thought for one moment that what I was about to witness was this most unreal, surreal picture of this most amazing and beautiful voice, sing a song that hunted me almost to tears. I like Simon, Piers and Amanda was in total shock along with everyone else in Britain watching.
She was incredible!
Now, it got me thinking, How many Susan Boyle's are in the church? My church? How many total unassuming characters that we often judge by what we see and hear are sitting in the congregation every week who never get to use their God given giftings.
David, Moses, Rehab, Nehemiah, Peter, John, Silas and many other Biblical characters were just ordinary people like you and me. All had there own way and all had there problems. Perhaps to the world they looked a little frumpy, not so clean cut and in no way able to do anything worth while. But that's where God steps into the picture.
Susan Boyle has inspired me to find the talent that God has in all of us. To find the men and woman that are not so special in the worlds view or mans view but are extraordinary in Gods view. You who underestimate what God can do through you to change and inspire a world that needs so inspired right now. Not with great singers or special people who shine but with people like us. You know, the ordinary ones like you and me. God longs for you and me to catch the vision that we can be someone so important in His kingdom, even just a little bit. I have learned lately that when God wants to do something he uses the most ordinary people to do it. If you sit thinking your not good enough or I could never do that, preach like that or be involved in that, well your wrong. Just a little dreaming sometimes can go a long way. Is God dreaming something for your life that you think I can't! when God says you can.
Today you are so important in Gods kingdom. If no one has told you that before, well, I am.
You hold the power to change this world, is it time to step up to the plate and go for it.
How many of us don't bother because we look at people like Simon Cowell and think I could never live up to his expectations.
Maybe, just maybe God has a few hidden Susan's out there who have never been courage's enough to go for it.
Hey! live the dream and see what God can do.
Go for it.
John
By the way here is the link to Susans step up to the plate moment.....
